Clothing
Light, breathable fabrics. Pack at least one modest outfit for visiting ruins or churches.
Sun protection
Biodegradable sunscreen is mandatory at most cenotes and better for the reefs in general.
Footwear
Comfortable sandals for the beach, plus closed shoes for ruins or jungle excursions.
Extra items for sargassum season
Consider water shoes if you visit May–October, when seaweed can make walking barefoot on the beach unpleasant.
Don’t forget
- A reusable water bottle
- A light rain jacket (afternoon showers are common)
- A power adapter (Mexico uses US-style plugs)
